Wade’s boards are some of the most popular here in Hawaii being ridden by legions of shortboarders and numerous big name touring pros who come to the North Shore every winter season. Some of the bigger names seen riding Tokoro boards include Andy Irons (won 2006 Pipeline Masters on a Tokoro shape), Sunny Garcia, and Jamie O’Brien to name a few. Tokoro, who hails from the East side of Oahu, arguably demonstrates the best surfing ability of all surfboard shapers. You’ll often find him charging 2nd reef Pipe and air dropping into a heaving Teahupoo pit.

I began building surfboards in Florida in 1974 and have been shaping ever since. It all started when I wanted to make surfboards for my own personal use. People liked what they saw and started asking for them.
I now call Hawaii my home and have been here for the last 20 years.
For the last fourteen of those years I have enjoyed a good
surfer/shaper relationship with Bonga Perkins. Together we have
collaborated on many of his designs, the latest being the 10’0 SUP
(stand up paddle board) epoxy model. I also have shaped boards for a
number of Local Motion pro and amateur team riders (past and present)
such has: Love Hodel, Jessie Merle Jones, Keanu Asing, and Leila
Hurst to name a few.

When Ricky Carroll was 12 years old he was getting tired of waiting for his older brother to finish surfing so he could use the $10 surfboard thier mother had bought them at a garage sale. So, when he saw his friend and neighbor, Mary Ann Hayes, shaping a surfboard in her garage he decided then to make his own surfboard. He hasn't stopped since.
Ricky is probably most known for his versatility and vast knowledge of everything from kneeboards to noseriders to big wave guns to high performance shortboards and everything in between. R.C. still manages to make his yearly pilgramage to surfings mecca, the North Shore to keep his wits sharp but, this hasn't spoiled his taste for Florida juice though.
